SAN LEANDRO (BCN)

A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in San Leandro tonight, according to a spokesman for the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

The collision occurred on a track at Hesperian Boulevard and Springlake Drive, the spokesman said.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said a Capitol Corridor train struck a trespasser two miles north of the Hayward Amtrak station at about 8:18 p.m.

Graham said 26 passengers were on the train but none of them were injured.

She said the train was held at the collision site for more than two hours but was expected to get back on its way at about 11 p.m.
