San Francisco voters appear to have elected Nick Josefowitz to a seat on the BART Board of Directors, in an upset that unseats the 24-year incumbent James Fang, according to complete unofficial election results.
Josefowitz currently leads in the race for the board's District 8 seat with more than 49 percent of the vote to Fang's 42.5 percent.
Josefowitz, a Democrat and first time candidate, released a statement today saying that he thinks San Franciscans voted for him because "they want to clean up BART and its dirty politics."
"That is the strong and resounding mandate that I am going to take with me as I get to work as your new BART Board Director," Josefowitz said today.
The 31-year-old candidate also handed out blue sponges printed with his name and the slogan "Clean Up Bart" prior to the election to drive his campaign home.
Perhaps one of the most attractive features of Josefowitz campaign was his pledge to bring late night weekend BART trains to San Francisco.
With a background in clean energy entrepreneurship, Josefowitz has said he will utilize his skills and experience building clean infrastructure to create world-class public transportation in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. |
