Mill Valley Foundations and Organizations

There are several foundations and non-profit organizations in Mill Valley. Each organization has its own unique mission and objectives and seeks to serve its community.

 

 

The Rotary Club of Mill Valley

The Rotary Club of Mill Valley is a chapter of Rotary International. Its mission is to serve as an organization with members from the business community around the world committed to improving humanitarian services. The Rotary Club of Mill Valley began on July 20, 1926, as Rotary club number 2370 and is in its 85th year. The club in involved in community projects and contributes to international projects.

Dipsea Race Foundation

The Dipsea Race Foundation is the foundation that runs the famous Dipsea Race, the oldest trail race in America which began in 1905. The foundation is a charitable non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation which was founded in 1997 to keep the race close to its roots which are to "foster national amateur sports competition by sponsoring, maintaining and perpetuating, through charitable contributions and endowments, the Dipsea Race, the Dipsea Trail, the Dipsea Hall of Fame, and educational scholarships."

Kiddo!

Kiddo! is a non-profit organization focused on helping Mill Valley’s school children enrich their education and growth through a variety and depth of programs. These programs cover art, dance, drama, music, poetry, technology, and physical education. Kiddo! is available to school age children from kindergarten to 8th grade.

Mill Valley Philharmonic

Mill Valley Philharmonic is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that manages and supports the community orchestra of almost 60 volunteer musicians. The organization is now in its second decade and relies on donor support to continue the free, live orchestral music for local communities.  The 2012-2013 season includes music from the Nordic composers, a Christmas concert, and Beethoven and Stravinsky symphonies.

Outdoor Art Club

The Outdoor Art Club started in 1902 and is a private, nonprofit women's organization. Its mission is to preserve natural wildlife and scenery in Mill Valley. Its outdoor art works and exhibits are designed to help people appreciate the beauty of natural surroundings. The Outdoor Art Club stages public events such as the 2012 Marin Masters Show, garden tours, civics and conservation program, a literary program, a garden section, and community blood drive. 

Ralston White Retreat Foundation

The Ralston White Retreat Foundation’s mission is to preserve the Ralston While mansion for public use. The massive 14,000 square foot mansion is surrounded by 43 acres of redwood groves. The Ralston White Retreat is available for private events including family reunions, weddings and meetings. The beautiful views of San Francisco Bay, Mount Tamalpais and surrounding areas are unmatched.  Participants have toured

SingersMarin

SingersMarin of the Choral Singers of Marin is a group of choruses whose participants consist of volunteer singers of all ages. The public concerts are performed for the local community and are well attended. SingersMarin started as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization in July, 1988. Participants have performed at Carnegie Hall, traveled to several cities including Berlin and Vienna, Vancouver, Sydney, Germany, and Austria. 

Tamalpais High School Alumni Association

The Tamalpais High School Alumni Association seeks to preserve the more than 100 year old school. Its goal is to give back to their alma mata by preserving the older Craftsman buildings and restoring the campus grounds. The Tamalpais High School Alumni Association is a 501(c)(3) entity. Other projects undertaken by the Alumni Association include landscaping for the gardens at Tamalpais High School, building a new stage at Mead Theater, restoring WPA artwork , creating a Tam Archives Department, and support for the replacement of two buildings, Benefield Hall and Keyser Hall. 

Zero Breast Cancer

Zero Breast Cancer’s mission is to engage the community to help research and find causes of breast cancer. The group focuses on identifying environmental factors and how they play in the development of breast cancer. In 1995 a group of Marin County residents who had many of their friends afflicted with breast cancer founded the organization to provide support and determine next steps in understanding the disease. Today Zero Breast Cancer is at the forefront of breast cancer research and discovering the causes of the disease.

The Mill Valley Library Foundation

The Mill Valley Library Foundation is responsible for raising funds, promoting, and supporting the Mill Valley Public Library. Maintaining a diverse selection of print and digital editions of books, enhancing technology, and improving experience for its patrons are the key goals of the Foundation.

Crescent Porter Hale Foundation

Select grants in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo communities are supported by the Crescent Porter Hale Foundation, a private family foundation. The Foundation supports arts and music, community services, and education.

Pearson Foundation

The Pearson Foundation promotes literacy, learning, and great teaching. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that partners with businesses, nonprofits, and education experts to find solutions to overcome educational disadvantages that young people and adults encounter worldwide. By focusing on the most efficient and effective practices, its mission is to help a child succeed in school and in the world.
